RESISTANCE BAND X

Whether you want to start getting into shape or you just want to tone the muscles you already have, resistance bands are one of the fastest and easiest ways to work out. They are convenient and you can take them anywhere. This will allow you to be able to work out at home, at the office or in a hotel room when you go out of town.

What are resistance bands?

Resistance bands are not a new workout tool. People have been using them since the early 1900s for fitness training purposes and a couple decades later physical therapists began using them also.

They are basically large rubber bands that have plastic handholds that you can pull against in order to gain strength and muscle tone in certain muscle groups. They work basically with the same concept that weight training has for years. When you lift weights, you are forcing your muscles to work through the resistance of the weight and defy gravity.

With resistance bands, you get the same resistance, within the bands themselves only in a much more convenient and user friendly way and the resistance is the same from the start of your repetition to the end of it.The bands are lighter and smaller than having a lot of weights lying around your home. You wouldn’t want to take your weights with you when you travel or keep them at the office but you can fit your resistance bands anywhere.

A very common and easy work out that you can do with resistance bands is to put one end of the band under your feet while standing and hold the other end with both hands. You will then pull up against the band. It is the basic concept of a bicep curl that requires you to use weights in your hands.

The cross over is another good work out for the upper body using bands, however you will need a pole or something solid to wrap the resistance band around. To do it wrap the band around your stationary object and stand with your back to it. Step forward just enough to start feeling a little resistance while holding one handle in each hand. From there try to bring your hands together in front of you.

If you want to work on your abdominal muscles, lay on the floor with the resistance band wrapped around your chosen stationary object. From here you can do either sit ups or crunches with your band to ensure you get the maximum amount of resistance in your tummy area.

Another simple idea is to hold one end with your feet while sitting on the floor with your legs stretched out in front of you. You use one hand to pull backwards. If done right it works the same muscle group in your back and shoulders that a rowing machine would.

You may also choose to get a door attachment so that you are able to secure the resistance band to something solid. Doing this may also allow you to discover other ways to work out various muscle groups. Check out the door anchor below.

It’s a safe way for them to keep up their strength while they are unable to get out and about. If the patient can keep his muscles moving and blood flowing there is a less chance of them developing blood clots and other issues.
